Coffin and Gerry Happenings

Students at Coffin and Gerry have had a busy fall!  Kindergarteners started the year with a focus on collage to help reinforce knowledge of shapes.  They created monster collages and learned how to fold a paper spring to make parts of their monster "pop out."  Kindergarten students just finished using oil pastels to draw trees and collaged on the leaves with tissue paper.

First graders have been doing a lot of painting!  We learned to identify and mix secondary colors with tempera for our outer space artwork.  We also drew and painted a witch's kitchen with watercolors.

2nd grade Crazy Critter painting
Second graders drew and painted crazy critters and learned about tints and shades.  Right now they are finishing up their pop-out haunted house drawings before moving on to a pattern collage.

3rd grade stuffed fish
Third graders made oil pastel/watercolor resist fish and then stuffed them.  From there, each class has branched out and worked on its own thing -- chalk pastel pumpkin portraits, a gigantic turkey, and 3D flower models!  For more examples of student work, check out the Coffin and Gerry Art Blog!  Also, be sure to stop by the November show at the National Grand Bank to see Coffin and Gerry student work!
