2014 Art All State
The
Worcester Art Museum held the 27th Massachusetts Art All-State on Friday, May
30, & Saturday, May 31, 2014. Through the history of Art All-State, over
3,600 high school juniors from all across Massachusetts have had the
opportunity to meet their peers, work with professional artists, learn about
post-secondary art training, and investigate art careers. Art All-State is
designed to foster high caliber art education for the young people of
Massachusetts by matching students with professional artists to create
large-scale artworks inspired by the Museum's collection. Through gallery and
studio experiences AAS challenges and inspires these participants to think
creatively about themselves and the role that art can play in life after high
school. Eight studio groups are each lead by two professional artists, who help
facilitate the students in the creative process. The artists, who come from a
variety of different art disciplines, also act as mentors for the student
participants.
Each year
MHS Fine Arts teachers are allowed to select two juniors from the entire high
school to participate in AAS. This year Studio 3 Hannah Fobert was selected for
the program. According to Hannah AAS was a unique experience as the picture she took of their group installation also
shows.
This past weekend, May 30th and 31st, I was chosen to
participate in the 2014 Art All-State event at the Worcester Art Museum, and
was one of the most amazing opportunities I have ever been given. For the two
days I was there, I worked on a group installation with other artists around
the state. It opened my mind up to new ideas and perspectives and was an
extremely influential experience. Everyone I met there was incredible and it
was awesome to be surrounded by so many other individuals passionate about art.
The 2014 Art All States paved new roads for my future in not only art, but life
in general, and was truly an unbelievable experience that I was so fortunate to
be a part of.
